More teachers. More mentors. Less takeover.

The strongest statewide system does not depend on one specialist knowing every instrument, genre, disability and age group. It builds a trained network of band directors, working musicians, church/community music leaders, producers, percussionists, engineers, peer mentors and accessibility specialists—with clear boundaries around what each role is actually qualified to do.

Musicians working together in rehearsal

Teaching artist

Instrument, genre or production expertise. Learns ANCHOR access standards but is not automatically a clinician or disability-support worker.

Peer mentor

Models, rehearses alongside, helps decode process and reduces social uncertainty without speaking over the musician or doing the work for them.

Band leader

Runs musical decisions and rehearsal. Trained to separate performance standards from irrelevant conformity demands.

Access coordinator

Helps translate participant preferences into practical arrangements, coordinates rooms/events and keeps sensitive information need-to-know.

Tech mentor

DAW, MIDI, livestream, audio, lighting, stage or instrument-repair expertise.

University fellow

Supervised student placement where an Arkansas institution approves it; not unpaid substitution for permanent required staff.

Community host

Opens a room or event route. Completes host readiness and safeguarding requirements appropriate to the activity.

Clinical consultant

Used when actual clinical expertise is needed. Music education does not become therapy merely because a disabled participant is present.

Existing models: United Sound uses peer mentorship in school instrumental music, while Music Will scales modern-band instruction partly through educator professional development. ANCHOR can borrow the workforce logic without copying either program. United Sound ↗ · Music Will ↗
